i am a recovering political scientist keen on helping diverse stakeholders work together towards sustainable solutions to poverty. learning about the impact of technology, entrepreneurship and creativity on society is what gives me energy.

this tumblr helps me keep track of things which have happened to me, as well as the interesting, funny, inspiring and beautiful links i find this on this internet odyssey (read more).

for something more focused and structured (i.e., without photos of cute animals), you may like to browse my online art portfolio or visit my website. you can also find me on twitter, ask me a question or feed my fish.

There is much dispute, perhaps heightened in academia, that encouraging patenting (by using them as one of only a few innovation proxies) and non-disclosure is potentially counter productive to the facilitation of collaborative cooperative research networks which sustain open science communities, around which knowledge flows.

What is prostate cancer?

Ladies and gentlemen, it is November and the month of Movember is upon us.

Do you love the men in your life but can’t or would really rather not (have your man) grow a mustache? Below are some links you can read and share to raise awareness in your own way.

<3

  • Watch Movember founder Adam Garone speak at TED on “Healthier men, one moustache at a time”
  • Find out if your age, race, diet or height indicate you have a higher risk of getting prostate cancer, e.g. you are above 65 years old, African American, live in the US, eat fatty foods and are tall…
  • The same page also has a section on myths and non-risks. Scroll down. You’d be surprised by which *ahem* activities some studies have suggested.
  • Read about 10 easy ways to reduce your risk of Prostate Cancer.
  • Download publications from Prostate Cancer UK. There are a ton of things here, ranging from info cards for the curious, to helpful resources for those the recently diagnosed.
  • In the UK? Call a specialist nurse from Prostate Cancer UK for more information at: 0800 074 8383.

If you’re a man and you’re still (STILL??) considering not shaving for a month in honor of Movember:

  • Register here for the awesome, mustache-y movement, to help raise awareness and raise funds for Prostate Cancer research.

Who am I to stop you?

After all, we can agree on one thing; we do not love our men but for their facial hair.

Questions of science / science and progress / do not speak as loud as my heart.
